Westover - Game Eight
Last game - TCCHS 41 Westover 0
On a rain soaked Friday night at the Jackets Nest in Thomasville, the #1
ranked Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets found a consistent running game
behind all-star tailback Joe Burns and walloped the Westover Patriots 41-0.
Through a torrential storm that kept most fans high and dry at home, TCCHS
rolled up over 400 yards of offense while the defense shut down the Patriot
offense to less than 100 total yards.
Burns ran for a season high 183 yards on 18 carries for the night. As has
been the case the last two seasons, the hard-running back appears to be
hitting his stride as the playoffs approach. Burns was named the Quincy's
Player of the Game for his efforts by the WTUF radio crew.
But the big play of the night belonged to reserve sophomore QB Blake Love,
who burst for a 63-yard touchdown run late in the contest for his first
long varsity TD blast. The heir-apparent to the Yellow Jacket quaterback
slot ran the option nicely during most of the second half. Love won the
Hoagies & Heroes Hero of the Game by the radio crew for the big play.
With the win, Central moves to a perfect 8-0 on the season, remains in
control of the Region 1-AAA - A division race, and have outscored the
opposition by a cumulative 317-56 count. In their last two meetings, TCCHS
has outscored Westover 111-7.
This week, Thomas County Central's Yellow Jackets face the Columbus Blue
Devils in another subregion matchup.
